Our Story
Record Family Wines is the latest endeavor of a family with strong ties to California agriculture. Situated on 100 acres of land in San Miguel, Paso de Record Vineyard is the foundation and source for award winning Record Family Wines.
Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier vines, we choose the best fruit our vineyard produces each year to bottle under our label. Our intention is to create wines that are representative of the place the grapes come from.
We want to showcase our fruit and, ultimately, create a product we are proud to share and enjoy with our family and friends. We can’t wait to share our passion with you.
Meet the Team
Randy
An accomplished third generation farmer and savvy businessman, Randy Record brings his southern California roots to the Central Coast in his newest venture, Record Family Wines located in the Estrella District AVA of Paso Robles. Growing up in San Jacinto California, and working with his father on a dairy farm started by his grandfather in the 1920s, Randy knew he would carry-on the family farming tradition. Randy earned his degree in Agriculture Management at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and developed a passion for the Central Coast and the lush land of Paso Robles. After Cal Poly he returned to San Jacinto and started his own endeavor, RGR Farming Company, which focused on row crops. The Central Coast was well within his sights, as Randy knew someday he would put down roots in Paso Robles.
After raising his daughters, Tricia and Mindy, he along with his wife Anne saw them take a strong interest into the wine business. As a farmer always looking for a new opportunity, Randy purchased the 110-acre property in 2007 as a way to connect his daughters to their family farming heritage and their love of the wine business. Randy, a mentor to Tricia and Mindy, is actively involved in growing the brand and building the business for his grandkids while carrying on the tradition of family farming.
Anne
As matriarch of the Record Family, Anne Record’s rich farming history along with her background in education and horticulture compliments Record Family Wines. Growing up in rural Hemet, California surrounded by lush farmland Anne developed a profound affection for plants, which lead her to Cal Poly Pomona where she earned a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and received her teaching credentials. Working in restaurants during college she developed an appreciation for fine wine.
Anne’s love of family drew her to the Central Coast. While daughters, Tricia and Mindy, both attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo she grew fond of the area and specifically Paso Robles finding it unpretentious and warm. Discovering the Paso Robles area had fruitful land and opportunity for new farming ventures, Anne and Randy purchased the 110-acre property, Paso de Record, in the Estrella District AVA. Although grapes are sold to many Paso Robles winemakers, the family keeps selected fruit for their own boutique brand, Record Family Wines founded in 2009.
Jeff
Jeff, a general misanthrope and curmudgeonly spectator of the Theater of Life, was born and raised in small-town Connecticut. With the enormous amount of free time afforded by both the completion of a degree and professional stint in biochemical engineering, he naturally took frequent trips out to Napa Valley in supplement of his passion for wine. Discovering in short order that his current job bore a striking number of similarities to winemaking, he abandoned his other dream of becoming a CDC Virus Hunter and made a bee line to UC Davis for his MS. Insert placements at Merryvale Vineyards in St Helena, Franciscan Estate in Rutherford, Mollydooker in McLaren Vale, Australia, and most recently at Round Pond Estate in Rutherford, and you’ve got the makings of a true addict. He’s got it bad.
Given that he lists his heroes as Statler and Waldorf (from the Muppet Show), Dr. Bruce Banner (aka the Incredible Hulk), and Captain Quint (from Jaws), its no surprise that Jeff found his way to Paso Robles instead of rooting himself in a more traditional wine region. Not that he can’t frequently be found enjoying the much more classic combination of sushi and dry German Riesling…
Tricia
Rooted in family farming, Tricia Record Swartz brings a passion for marketing and sales as she approaches her role at Record Family Wines keeping future generations at the forefront. Since 2010, Tricia has brought a dynamic approach to the family business in her position as sales and marketing manager. Focusing on direct to consumer sales, Tricia looks for unique opportunities to build brand awareness and turn fans into brand ambassadors. The boutique, estate-brand, located in the Estrella District AVA of Paso Robles showcases the terroir of the 75-acre vineyard. Emphasizing sustainable farming, Tricia tells the story of the family business through their hand crafted wines being recognized by wine critics.
Graduating in 2004 from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a major in Agribusiness and a minor in Viticulture, she found an affinity for wine business marketing. Following college she worked as merchandiser for Southern Wine and Spirits on the Central Coast. After moving to San Diego Tricia was a sales rep for a preimium wine broker representing wine brands from across California. Settling down in San Diego, Tricia joined the team at a Napa Valley boutique wine brand, as their Southern CA Sales Manager. This wide-range of experience adds value to Record Family Wines as Tricia looks to build the brand one ambassador at a time.
Mindy
A fourth generation farmer, Mindy Record brings a wealth of knowledge and a love of the land to the family business. Since 2013, Mindy has served as the full time vineyard manager for the 110-acre Paso de Record property of which 75 acres are planted to wine grapes. The vineyards are located in the Estrella District AVA, a sub region of the Paso Robles AVA. She focuses on the vines and their unique sense of place working with winemakers who seek premium grapes. The family sells the majority of their fruit to high-end Paso Robles wineries. Keeping selected blocks for the family’s small boutique brand, Mindy can showcase the full potential of the vineyard through the estate-driven wines, which are recognized by wine critics.
Mindy, a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo agribusiness graduate fell in love with farming grapes in Paso Robles. After launching her career at the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance working as the membership coordinator, Mindy wanted to get out from behind the desk and into the vineyard. A position as Assistant Vineyard Manager at Treasury Estates, one of the world’s largest wine brands, put Mindy into the vineyard daily where she gained valuable boots on the ground experience. Raised in San Jacinto, California she developed a passion for farming while being immersed in her family’s row and forge crop agribusiness, RGR Farming Company. During high school Mindy was involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA) then chose to follow in the footsteps of past Record generations and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, graduating in 2006.
The Next Generation
As previous generations did for them, Tricia and Mindy hope to instill a connection to the land and eagerness to continue the family farming tradition with the next generation. It shouldn’t be hard, as all three boys enjoy their time at the vineyard. They love to go on adventures, climb trees, ride bikes, and take advantage of all the other benefits of growing up surrounded by acres of land to explore.
